Emotions arise from mechanical structures and formal traits. Some memories we borrow, some we are ready to adopt as our own.
The work focusses on nostalgia as a form and memory as a frame. The repetition of “foggy Mantova from a dirty train”, 2008, is a rhythmic exploration of reminiscence: doesn’t one long for low quality, wouldn’t they recognize an unfamiliar train track? Will it pass by, with the repetition of the train sounds?
The nostalgia shines through the squares of the compressed ever-so common landscape, while the warping of footage allows the viewer to take an uncomfortable, removed position towards the video as it continues, seemingly with no beginning nor an end.
